Red Rabbit Review: This is NOT Enemies-To-Lovers, This is “She Falls For Her Rapist”

Two Kaelin Bennett—CTO of Phox, a military tech company, and Graham Wolfe—a semi-retired veteran working on and off for private military companies, just crash landed in the deep wild. He’s in handcuffs and she just saved his life so it looks like they’re in it together much to both of their dismays.

Kaelin and Graham’s battle out of the wild starts with just trying to survive each other but when one of Graham’s old military buddies shows up out of nowhere, it’s not to save them—and they both quickly discover something sinister is going on. The forest holds some terrifying secrets that just may break them and Graham suddenly finds himself fighting to rescue Kaelin from the darkest depths of human depravity—all while he battles his own demons hiding in the shadows.

There are no heroes here—and the villains take what they want.

Before I get into the review, I want to say that Andi Eloise and James Cassidy are fantastic, as usual, and they work really well together. The audio production is top-notch.

Before I get into the review, I just want to state that I read a lot of extreme horror and splatterpunk books. The extremity of the actions in the book isn’t what bothers me; it’s the lack of story.

This is NOT a romance in any way; this is erotic horror. This is not “enemies-to-lovers.” Instead, this is “she falls for her RAPIST.” Technically speaking, the writing is fine; it’s the story I take issue with. It feels like just a lot of rape scenes strung together with little droplets of story sprinkled in. The ending was just ridiculous. It just doesn’t have any substance. It’s a BOSH book (bunch of shit happens). Will I read more of Devyn Rivers’ work? Most likely because I don’t want to judge her portfolio based on one book.

The only reason this gets three stars is because of the audio.
