I went into this knowing nothing about the story. I saw someone recommend it on TikTok and when I saw the cover, I knew I had to read it. The story itself was well written, and while we have seen similar stories, this one still had a certain freshness. It’s kind of a mix between Hostel, fear.com, and Saw. The ending twist wasn’t like a big ah-ha moment, but I don’t think this story really needed that. You’re here for the blood, guts, spit, n ass, not Sixth Sense scale twists. And while you’re here, you might as well tap the follow button.

There’s a well-rounded cast of characters, and I fully appreciate that they didn’t fall into the “five friends” archetypes. If you’ve watched any horror flick where five friends go do shit together, you know what I’m talking about. They felt very organic, like these are people you would actually know in real life. Even the minor characters were written in a way that made them feel like part of the story and not just plot devices.

There were a handful of grammatical issues and to be honest, they were so minor, and the story was engaging enough, that I don’t even remember what they were. I’m not one of those types of readers anyway. I read for the vibes. I’m not perfect and I don’t expect indie authors to be perfect either. The cost of hiring a proofreader and editor is expensive, so unless there’s a metric fuck ton of run-on sentences and overused punctuation, I don’t really care. This is the first book I’ve read from Miller, and I already have a few more on my TBR. She’s also working on a sequel to You’re Going to Die Here and I can’t wait to see where she takes the story next. But for now, You’re Going to Die Here is available on Kindle Unlimited and in print. I highly recommend you give this one a read if extreme horror is your jam.
